JESI JONES SINGLE ‘HURRICANE’ PLACED IN SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL FILM “COMPLIANCE”

The debut feature film from director Craig Zobel, the thrillerCompliance, is coming out later this summer. And while we’re big fans of independent cinema, we’ve got a special reason why we’re excited about this movie. Compliance marks a major success for OurStage’s Licensing Program, featuring a soundtrack comprised of OurStage artists.

Don’t go see Compliance if you’re looking for another popcorn movie. Feel good hit of the summer, this is not. The cerebral, challenging movie earned rave reviews when it premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. From the movie’s synopsis:

Becky and Sandra aren’t the best of friends. Sandra is a middle-aged manager at a fast-food restaurant; Becky is a teenaged counter girl who really needs the job. One stressful day (too many customers and too little bacon), a police officer calls, accusing Becky of stealing money from a customer’s purse, which she vehemently denies. Sandra, overwhelmed by her managerial responsibilities, complies with the officer’s orders to detain Becky. This choice begins a nightmare that tragically blurs the lines between expedience and prudence, legality and reason.

Heavy stuff indeed.

And if you’re curious to hear which OurStage artists made the final cut for the movie, check out this playlist of all the songs by OurStage artists in the movie, including Admiral Twins, BlacklistedIndividuals, Jesi Jones, and many more.

Check out the trailer for Compliance HERE. The movie is set for release in the U.S. on August 17th.

FULL CIRCLE ALBUM REVIEW ON OURSTAGE

Hurt So Good

Published by Kate B on December 12, 2011 in Artist FeaturesPop

Jesi Jones

It’s not every artist who asks for your shoe size along with your name and email on his/her mailing list sign up form. But Nashville’s Jesi Jones is just a smidgen more fanciful than most. Her songs are infused with whimsy, wrapped in quiet, breathless melodies. “Full Circle”  is a dreamy echo chamber of ambient beats, guitar reverb and Jones’s honeyed vocals. All of her songs are delivered softly and sweetly. “Oh No,” even as it bemoans the act of falling for someone, is a quiet little love song made up of acoustic guitars and brushed drums. In “I Fell In Love,” she tackles the same sore subject, this time with guitar, piano and violin. “Call me a fool if I sound masochistic / If this counts as pain I want more,” she sings. Ditto that.

FULL CIRCLE FEATURED ON RADIO POTATO.COM

“Full Circle” – Jesi Jones – Produced by multi-talented musician, Marc Scibilia, I was taken by the pulsing and the crackling of “Full Circle” by this budding ingenue out of Nashville.  It sounds like a Grey’s Anatomy-ready song reminiscent of the depth of Tori Amos and the pop sensibility of Erin McCarley.  The new EP is so new there are no downloads yet or videos for this song, but the song is on the Grooveshark playlist below.  Chosen by Paste Magazine for Feb 08 CD sampler, this lady is on the rise!  MySpace |Facebook | Official Site
